- Based on real exorcism storiesExorcist, hidden-object adventure game by Deep Shadows, tells the story of Garret Ghostfighter, a guy who was born with the ability to see demons. Inspired by his father's religious devotion, he becomes an exorcist himself and spends his time fighting evil spirits. After a period of peace, when Garret thinks his battles in the spiritual world are finished, a mysterious being shows up to let him know he still has an enemy to defeat. Mephisto knows every detail of Garret's life, and apparently, he is back for revenge. That event forces Garret to undertake the task of catching Mephisto before he attempts to make innocent people suffer.
Along the game, you will be visiting old houses, cemeteries, and abandoned places in search of clues about this mysterious entity. Every location you visit is haunted by a demon, and to expel it you need to solve a series of puzzles: find hidden items, use some of them to whatever task you need to accomplish (get a knob to open a door, repair a gear mechanism, fill a container with holy water), and sort out some ingenious mini games.
A location usually consists of several areas that Garret can walk through when you see the cursor turning into footsteps. If you manage to solve all the puzzles in a location, the place will be free from evil spirits, and that will allow you move forward. As you make progress, new pieces of Garret's adventure will be revealed through dialogs with different characters, and also through cutscenes.
Though not really an horror game, Exorcist manages to create a genuinely gloomy atmosphere that will surely keep you playing to the end. The great artwork, as well as its music, contribute to that greatly. It might not be original, nor make a significant contribution to the genre, but players who like intriguing stories will enjoy this game a lot.
